Halt the Rezoning of Single-Family Parcels into High Density Residential in Palm Bay

The Issue

As a resident of Palm Bay, FL, I am deeply concerned about the city's continuous rezoning of single-family and public parcels of land into high-density multi-family residential areas for developers. This move threatens to exacerbate existing issues such as overcrowded schools, increased traffic, insufficient infrastructure, lack of emergency services and drainage problems that our community is already struggling with.

The proposed rezoning will lead to a significant increase in population density. With our schools already at capacity and traffic congestion becoming a daily issue for many residents, these changes will only add fuel to the fire. Moreover, our infrastructure is not equipped to handle such an influx of residents. Drainage systems are already strained during heavy rains; adding more buildings and pavement will only worsen flooding issues.

According to data from the U.S Census Bureau (2019), Palm Bay has seen steady growth over recent years. However, this growth has been somewhat manageable due in part to zoning laws that have preserved single-family and public parcels of land. Continuing to change these zoning laws will disrupt the balance we've achieved between growth and quality of life.

This petition isn't just about preserving what we love about our community—it's also about ensuring sustainable development that takes into account the needs and capacities of existing communities before making drastic changes.

Please join me in urging city officials to reconsider their decisions on rezoning single-family and public parcels into high-density residential areas in Palm Bay. Sign this petition today!
