The Issue

As residents of rural South Lake County, this matter is deeply personal to us. Much of the serenity and tangible benefits of rural living are under threat due to progress-driven rezoning initiatives. Specifically, the parcel of land on Oswalt Rd, Clermont, FL (Alt. Key 1114870) which is on the verge of a rezoning change from rural to urban low-density land usage.  The current zoning allows for 1 dwelling per 5 acres, the change in zoning would allow up to 4 dwellings per acre.

This anticipated transition raises major concerns, such as a marked decrease in property values, an upsurge in traffic, and a strain on public services like road maintenance, trash pick up and emergency services. The rezoning could also invite commercial activity more suited to urban environments, disrupting our peace and quiet.  Development of this parcel has envirmental impacts as well with known Gopher Tortoise activity in the area.

Studies have shown that rapid urbanization can disrupt the local economy, increase environmental toxicity, and diminish land values. This change will depreciate the naturally aesthetic value of our beloved landscape, and we risk losing the treasured charm that attracts many to South Lake County.

The proposed rezoning affects not just individual homeowners, but the rich historical and cultural character of Clermont and South Lake County. We therefore urge the responsible authority to reconsider the proposed rezoning and protect the rural charm that we cherish. Sign this petition to let your voice be heard and help us save our rural home.
