Halt the Removal of Street Parking for Bike Lanes on Leckie Road.

The Issue

Our business, along with many other small businesses on our street, is under threat. The City of Kelowna's plan to eliminate most of the street parking in favor of a specific bike lane design will have a devastating impact on our livelihoods. We understand and appreciate the city's efforts to promote greener modes of transportation and are not in any way opposed to bike lanes. However, this should not come at the expense of local businesses that rely heavily on street parking for their customers.

According to a survey by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), 65% of small businesses consider parking availability as a key factor for their success. This proposed change could potentially lead to reduced customer traffic and ultimately, business closures.

We are not against progress or environmental sustainability but believe there must be balance and consideration for all stakeholders involved. We urge the City Council to reconsider this specific design and explore alternative designs and solutions that accommodate both cyclists and local businesses.

Please sign this petition if you stand with us in protecting small businesses in Kelowna while promoting sustainable urban development.
