The powers-that-be have decided, in an unprecedented step, to amalgamate band and chorus for next school year - citing budget constraints handed down by the county as their justification. This course of action spells potential trouble for the high school band program and the overall future of our music education.

Unlike every other middle school in our county, we are standing on the precipice of a drastic change. The systematic eradication of a dedicated band program could critically affect the development of our students and compromise their musical journey heading into high school. Mr. Barry, through his knowledge, passion and dedication, has been pivotal in shaping the music landscape of our institution, and let's not forget, music education has long proven to contribute to students' cognitive development and emotional well-being.

This decision is personal. As we watch Mr. Barry being removed from the role he loves, we see our children's enthusiasm for music education being trampled upon.
