Halt the Release of Balloons in North Carolina

The Issue

On October 30th, on Emerald Isle, a young Gervais' beaked whale tragically lost its life due to ingesting a balloon. This heartbreaking incident is not isolated. In fact, according to the Marine Mammal Center, balloons are one of the most harmful pollutants affecting marine wildlife. When balloons are released into the sky, they often end up in our oceans where they can be mistaken for food by marine animals like whales and turtles. The ingestion of these balloons can cause blockages in their digestive system leading to starvation and death. Birds are also affected as they can become entangled in the balloon ribbons, leading to immobilization and eventual death. Wildlife is not the only casuality. Balloons have also caused harm to livestock.

In North Carolina alone, countless marine animals have fallen victim to this preventable tragedy. We believe that it's time for change. We urge lawmakers in North Carolina to enact legislation that bans the release of balloons into the environment.

By signing this petition, you're taking a stand against pollution and helping protect our precious marine wildlife from unnecessary harm. Let's ensure no more innocent lives are lost due to balloon pollution - sign today!
