Halt the Proposed Parking Ban on Kings Parade and Coastal Drive

Halt the Proposed Parking Ban on Kings Parade and Coastal Drive
The Issue
As a local resident deeply invested in the vibrant life of New Brighton, Wallasey, I am alarmed by the council's proposal to ban parking from 11pm - 6am along Kings Parade and Coastal Drive. This decision will not only affect me but also our local businesses, community groups, beach and water sports users.
A ban on commercial vehicles for a short period in the night would stop a repeat of the West Wallasey Van hire issue.
Our beloved promenade and beach are integral parts of our community. They serve as gathering places for families, friends, tourists and locals alike. The proposed parking restrictions will make these areas less accessible to everyone who cherishes them.
Local businesses that rely heavily on tourist traffic will be hit hard by this ban. According to Visit Britain statistics (2019), seaside tourism contributes £8 billion annually to England's economy with over 13 million trips made each year. By limiting access through this parking ban, we risk losing a significant portion of this revenue which supports our local economy.
Moreover, community groups that use these spaces for recreational activities like water sports, morning swims, night fishing or parking for clubs and restaurants would also face unnecessary hurdles in accessing facilities they have been using freely until now.
This is not just about convenience; it is about preserving the character of New Brighton and ensuring it remains a welcoming place for all who live here or come to visit.
We urge the council to reconsider their decision on this matter in light of its far-reaching implications for our town's economy and social fabric. Please sign this petition if you believe in keeping New Brighton accessible for all.
