From GTNA

A HUGE thank you to all who attended the City-County Council meeting.  As you likely have heard, Google withdrew their petitions for zoning changes that would have allowed the data center to move forward.   This means they cannot move forward building the data center.  City-County Councilor Michael-Paul Hart attributed Google’s withdrawal to the large turnout of people expressing their opposition, both in the rally beforehand and then in the meeting rooms (they had to open two overflow rooms to accommodate everyone!).   Needless to say, this is great news for all of us and we’re thrilled.   This would not have been the outcome without the participation of so many neighbors – THANK YOU everyone for coming and for the support that you have expressed!

What's next?

The Indianapolis zoning ordinance does not allow new zoning petitions on a site for three months after a petition has been withdrawn.  So, unless Google wants to move forward with a project that does not require rezoning (I don’t see how they can do that), we likely have a reprieve until after the holidays.  Once the three months have passed, it is VERY likely that someone will come forward with zoning petitions for a project on the same site – whether that be Google trying again for the data center or some other project.  There’s no way to know right now exactly what will be put forward.   Whatever it is, we will evaluate it in comparison to the zoning ordinance and comprehensive plan, hold public meetings to discuss the situation, then determine our response together.  In the meantime, enjoy a well-earned reprieve from the work and stress of zoning activity.

Thank you again to everyone who attended hearings and meetings related to the data center, talked with neighbors, put signs in your yard, shared information on social media or expressed support to our team.  You are the reason that Google withdrew – they were present in force (5 lawyers and numerous other supporters were there and ready to testify in support of the data center), but when they saw all of you they decided they couldn’t win and withdrew.  You did this!  Thank you!

Most sincerely,
