As a long-term resident of the neighborhood surrounding the Conejo Community Center and Park, and I am deeply concerned about the proposed changes under Development permit 2021-70567-DPMN and Protected Tree permit 2021-70523 PTP. This petition seeks to gather community support to stop these changes that could fundamentally alter our beloved park and neighborhood. The proposed enhancement plan would increase foot traffic and create additional disturbances in our peaceful community. 

Even more distressing is the plan to replace the natural beauty of our park, including the removal of 60-year-old trees, with and open grass areas with concrete surfaces. Parks and green spaces are known to provide significant benefits to both physical and mental health. Research has shown that living near green spaces reduces mortality rates and improves mental health (Nature, 2020). However, these benefits are likely to be reduced.  We are not against updates or upgrades to the park but believe that the current plan needs to be revised to take care not to diminish the beauty of the park and the character of its surrounding neighborhoods.
