The Issue

The introduction narrates a tale that's personal, poignant, and all too common. For many of us, schools have become places filled with uncertainty and unpredictability, where our safety often feels compromised. Our phones and other such electronics are our lifelines, connecting us with our loved ones and providing a sense of security in times of unexpected emergencies.

In response to this reality, the proposed prohibition of electronics in our schools not only strips us of these safety measures but also has an adverse effect on our motivation and performance. Motivation is a crucial ingredient in the quest for academic success, a fact supported by numerous studies such as one by the American Psychological Society in 2016 which shows a direct correlation between student motivation and academic achievement.

Many students already grapple with a lack of motivation and with the added frustration due to the removal of their electronics, it's inevitable that some may give up on their academic pursuits. Therefore, we need to consider the significant, and often overlooked, role of technology in bolstering our sense of security and dedication to learning.

In light of these, we call upon the administrators of school districts nationwide like ours to reconsider such prohibitions. Navigate the digital age with us, and let us embrace technology as an ally rather than an adversary. Your signature will help protect student's rights to use electronics for safety, connectivity, and their overall well-being. Sign the petition.
