Petition updateStop the poisoning of Australian native bees Fipronil Poisoning to cease as the DPI moves to Plan of Management

Over a year after the bee killing measures commenced in NSW Australia, the DPI has conceded defeat. But not before over 40 million bees have been killed, Fipronil has been released in to the environment, crops are failing and small beekeepers have lost their livelihood. The APVMA, the approver of Fipronil off label, faces scrutiny.

In particular relevance to our petition is the stopping of the Fipronil baiting and the subsequent clean up of Fipronil in the environment. We have been told verbally by the DPI that Fipronil bait stations are currently being removed.

The following questions have been emailed to the DPI- we will update you on their response.

Now the DPI has moved to a Plan of Management for Varroa I have the following questions:

Will Fipronil traps be removed and in what timeframe will all the traps be removed?

How will Fipronil be cleaned up in the environment? This question relates to the concerns raised by both the ANBA https://www.anba.org.au/varroa-response/ (about Fipronil being taken to nests in trees and will kill offtarget species) and the 2006 government report https://www.planthealthaustralia.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Asian-honey-bee-remote-nest-treatment-report.pdf (where concerns are raised regarding Fipronil effecting other species).

How extensive was the Fipronil baiting? i.e. the area covered in Kilometres.

How many bait stations were deployed?

Where can we access the link to which  towns/ areas Fipronil stations have been deployed?

How much Fipronil was used overall?

If anyone sees anything concerning regarding native bees, injury or death of reptiles, birds, mammals near Fipronil baiting stations (or where they were) who do they contact?
