Halt the Planned Closure of the Eagle Lodge Care Home - A Salvation Army Care Home
The Issue
The Issue
I am speaking on behalf of our families and our community, particularly the elderly residents who hold dear the Eagle Lodge Care Home in Edinburgh managed by The Salvation Army. This home provides critical care to our most vulnerable residents and is cherished by those who need its services. There is a growing concern following the Salvation Army’s decision to move away from the provision of residential care and its proposal to close this care home. The closing down of such a critical institution would displace our seniors, causing distress and disruption in their lives.
The Eagle Lodge Care Home has been a sanctuary for the elderly and the frail, ensuring that they receive the essential care and affection in their twilight years. According to Age UK, approximately 3.8 million elderly live alone in the UK, with 2 million aged above 75. These statistics underscore the importance of care homes in our society, providing company, care, and comfort to our elderly who may otherwise be living alone (source: Age UK).
The closure of the Eagle Lodge Care Home would contribute negatively to these numbers, and cause irreparable harm to our elderly population who depend on such institutions to maintain a certain quality of life. And let's not forget the potential job losses such a closure could bring about, affecting not just the elderly but families who depend on these jobs.
We must not allow this onslaught on the vulnerable to go unchallenged. Please join us in urging the Salvation Army to desist from this disastrous course. Sign this petition and lend your strength to our fight to keep the Eagle Lodge Care Home open, and by extension, secure the wellbeing of our elderly and our community.
