Halt the mothballing of Skeld Primary School

The Issue

My child is a pupil at Skeld Primary School, a vital institution in our community. The proposed mothballing of this school threatens to disrupt their education and the education of many others in Skeld, Shetland. This school is more than just an educational institution; it's a cornerstone for our community, playing an integral role in shaping our children's future.

Skeld Primary School has been serving our community for decades, providing high-quality education to countless students. According to the latest data from Education Scotland (2019), small schools like ours often outperform larger institutions when it comes to individual attention and student performance.

The closure would not only impact current students but also future generations who will be deprived of local access to primary education. It would mean longer commutes for young children and increased strain on surrounding schools already operating at near full capacity.

We understand that budget constraints are a reality but believe that the long-term negative effects on our children's education and overall community well-being far outweigh any short-term financial gains.

We urge you to reconsider this decision and explore alternative solutions that don't involve closing down such an essential part of our community. Please sign this petition if you support keeping Skeld Primary School open for current students like my child, as well as future generations yet unborn.
