Halt The Los Angeles Project's Plan to Genetically Modify Rabbits and Other Pets

Halt The Los Angeles Project's Plan to Genetically Modify Rabbits and Other Pets
The Issue
I am deeply disturbed by The Los Angeles Project's intentions to introduce genetically modified rabbits and other pets into their roster. These creatures, particularly rabbits, are among the most mistreated pets. They carry life, emotion, and a need for respect just like any other living being. The prospect of having these animals subjected to genetic modification not only strips them of their natural dignity, but it could potentially cause them great pain.
There's a harsh reality facing these adorable creatures—rabbits are among the most abandoned pets. According to the Humane Society of the United States, it’s estimated that 80% of bunnies purchased during Easter are abandoned shortly after (HSUS, 2018). Furthermore, rabbits are the third most euthanized pets in the United States (ASPCA, 2019). Sweeping them into a lab and modifying their genes as if they were mere objects only adds to this frightening dynamic.
The Los Angeles Project's plan to transform these animals into designer genetically modified pets sets a dangerous precedent. Not only does this breed a lack of fundamental respect for these creatures, but it further commodifies and objectifies them. We call upon The Los Angeles Project to halt this harmful initiative and rethink their approach towards these living beings. Please sign this petition to show your disapproval of genetically modifying pets and to protect them.
