I find myself deeply concerned about the introduction of Bovaer, a new feed additive for cows. As someone who takes a vested interest in what goes into my food, and into the food of my loved ones, the potential side effects of this additive are unknown. And this terrifies me; to think we might consume beef without knowing what it's been exposed to.

Bovaer, which is developed as a means to reduce methane emissions from cows, has promising initial results. Yet, comprehensive studies on its long-term effects on human health and cattle health are lacking. An extensive review of methane mitigation techniques in the Journal of Dairy Science highlighted the need for rigorous testing of such additives (Journal of Dairy Science, 2017).

Nevertheless, steps towards implementation are already being taken. We ask members of the farming industry, food safety authorities, and government regulators to halt the introduction of Bovaer into cow feed until conclusive studies can confirm its safety and absence of adverse side effects. We have a right to know what's going into our food and to ensure its safety.
