The Issue

I am a concerned parent, like many in our community, alarmed by the thought of a methadone and mental health business opening directly across from our local elementary school. Our children attend this school, and it's disconcerting to imagine the increased traffic and potential safety risks this could bring.

There are roughly 625 students enrolled in our school; they deserve a safe and nurturing environment to learn and grow without unnecessary disruptions. Additionally, research has shown that increased traffic alone can increase incidences of accidents involving pedestrians and motorists, particularly endangering children (Source: National Safety Council, US).

Similarly, if operated without rigorous management and control, methadone clinics have at times been associated with increased crime rates in their surrounding areas, according to a study by UCLA. It's our responsibility to protect the wellbeing of our children and maintain the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Let's show our adamant opposition - for the sake of our offspring, and for the community we've cultivated. I implore each parent, each neighbor, and each concerned resident - let's take a stand now. Sign this petition to halt the installation of a methadone and mental health facility near our elementary school.
