The Issue

As a devoted resident of Island Village within the community of Celebration, I and my fellow neighbors are facing a threat to our serene environment. The Celebration Boulevard Extension to County Road 532, when completed, will not only transform our 25 mph residential street into a major traffic artery but will also jeopardize the safety of our children, diminish our property values, and destroy our cherished wildlife habitats.

The extended roadway is envisaged to deviate traffic from Interstate 4 / State Road 417 / US Highway 192 right through the heart of our peaceful community. Island Village Elementary/Celebration High, our children's playgrounds, and our protected Wetlands will be placed in harm's way by an estimated thirty thousand plus cars per day. This projection was found in an Osceola County study (https://one.osceola.org/celebrationboulevardextension), forecasting potential damage that will alter our community indelibly and irrevocably.

To those reading this, it is time to raise your voice against this unnecessary extension. Support us in preserving Celebration’s unique character, ensuring our children's safety, maintaining our property values, and protecting our environment. Please, sign this petition today.

Thank you for your email regarding the proposed Celebration Boulevard Extension. After a public meeting on May 5, 2022, the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners selected Alternative 2 as the preferred option on October 17, 2022. However, funding has not yet been allocated for the design or construction phases. Traffic studies show that the extension would reduce traffic on Celebration Boulevard by providing direct access to CR 532 for traffic from Celebration Island Village and the southern areas of Celebration. Currently, access is only available from the north. This project was included in the county’s Future Land Use Plan – Transportation Road Network 2B (2040) (TRN-Map) through a Comprehensive Plan Amendment (CPA16-0010) adopted in 2017. The extension will parallel Old Lake Wilson Road, enhancing connectivity, safety, and multimodal options. It will also offer improved access for emergency responders and residents of the Island Village development, which has long been part of Celebration’s build-out plans. Regarding Alternative 3, it would create greater environmental impacts and significantly higher costs compared to the other options. Similarly, a bridge connecting Island Village to Artisan Park is not feasible due to high costs and regulatory challenges. If the project advances to the design phase, we will hold another public meeting to gather additional feedback.
