Petition updateHalt the Extinction of the Greater GliderGreater Glider - Vulnerable now Endangered.

In July, Federal Minister for Environment Tanya Plibersek listed the Greater Glider as Endangered. This listing is important in the efforts to save this incredible animal, but it also means that the Greater Glider is another step closer to extinction.

Why? Because we are not getting real action on the ground to protect their habitat. There is no let up or abatement in the destruction of this species’ crucial habitat of eucalypt tree hollows that can take over 100 years to form. When they are gone, so are the species that need them to survive.

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment recently approved the rezoning of the 40ha endangered Greater Glider habitat for a residential development at Callala Bay despite the near unanimous opposition to the Halloran/Sealark development from over 1,000 submissions. Many of them yours, I’m sure.

This Callala forest is literally teeming with Greater Gliders. It is incredibly unique and hosts other threatened glider species and threatened mammals, birds and plants. Very few biodiverse woodland forests like this remain on the eastern seaboard of NSW since those catastrophic fires of 2019/2020. I wish you all could see it; it is wonderful.

We must stand up to this. We are asking Federal Minister for Environment, Tanya Plibersek, to step in now and stop this insanity at Callala. In just a few years the Greater Glider has gone from Vulnerable to Endangered. If this relentless destruction of their habitat is not stopped, it won’t be long before they are gone, extinct.

We must continue to lobby our politicians and decision makers. Please continue to support our fight to save the Greater Glider from extinction.

Here is what you can do:
