Halt the Excessive Spending on a New Arena in Sudbury

The Issue

As a long-standing taxpayer living in the outlying region of Sudbury, I've watched as my hard-earned money is squandered by local government intent on reviving the former city and its long-lost "glory days". Our infrastructure is crumbling before our eyes, we have some of the worst roads in Ontario, yet city council refuses to face facts. It's time for municipal politicians to govern "within our means" and stop chasing unrealistic dreams…like a new arena.

The proposed $200 million arena is not only an outrageous expenditure but also one that will inevitably balloon beyond this already staggering figure. Meanwhile, Sudbury's downtown remains a disgrace despite hundreds of millions being poured into its revitalization. The result? A filthy, crime-ridden mess with insufficient parking.

The existing old arena has served us well and can continue to do so with some much-needed improvements. Instead of wasting resources on an unnecessary new project, let's invest wisely by giving the Elgin St. barn a facelift - it will serve our community for decades to come.

It's time we put an end to this reckless spending spree that benefits few at the expense of many. Let us focus instead on improving what we already have and ensuring that our tax dollars are spent responsibly and effectively where they are most needed.

Sign this petition if you believe it's high time for change; if you believe that our local government should prioritize practicality over grandeur; if you believe in responsible governance within our means. Let’s stop this white elephant before it drains more from us hardworking taxpayers!
