Halt the Excessive Rent Increases by Sanctuary Housing
Halt the Excessive Rent Increases by Sanctuary Housing
The Issue
We are a hardworking family, like many others, who prioritize our rent and council tax payments above all other expenses. However, with over half of our income from employment already consumed by these costs, the constant increases in rent are becoming unbearable. Sanctuary Housing has announced another increase coming in July of 5.8%. This is not an isolated incident but a recurring pattern that is pushing us and many others to the brink of financial instability. Sanctuary Housing claim to be a non profit organisation. They continue to build new homes , and neglect the old stock however still hike the rent by 5.8%
The housing market should serve its residents, not exploit them. Yet, we find ourselves trapped in a cycle where our wages cannot keep up with the escalating rents. The average UK rent has increased by 2% annually over the past decade (source: Office for National Statistics), but Sanctuary Housing's proposed increase nearly triples this average.
We understand that running costs may rise over time and some level of rent increase might be necessary. However, consistent high increases such as this one far outpace inflation rates and wage growth - it's simply unsustainable for tenants.
We urge Sanctuary Housing to reconsider their approach to rent increases and instead adopt a model that takes into account tenants' ability to pay without compromising their financial stability or quality of life. Please sign this petition if you believe in fair rental practices and stand with us against excessive rental hikes.
