Halt the Development of Overcrowded Housing in Del Sur, CA

The Issue

I am a resident of Del Sur, California, and I have seen firsthand how our community is struggling under the weight of overpopulation. Our schools are overcrowded, our resources are strained to their limits. Now, there is a proposal on the table to develop yet another housing unit in an area that is already saturated. Developers have secretly planned and have started to break ground on yet another affordable/affirmed housing project. This site proposes on site management, laundromat, 3 story parking structure with retail space. https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2023/12/06/2792075/0/en/Affirmed-Housing-Breaks-Ground-on-New-Workforce-Housing-Development-in-Del-Sur-San-Diego.html

Our local schools are already at capacity with student-teacher ratios higher than the state average. The addition of more families into our community will only exacerbate this issue and compromise the quality of education for our children.

Moreover, local resources such as water and electricity are being stretched thin due to overpopulation. We fear that further development will push these systems beyond their breaking point leading to frequent outages or even worse - rationing.

We understand that housing development can bring economic growth but it should not be at the expense of existing residents' quality of life. We urge city officials to reconsider this plan and focus on improving infrastructure and services for current residents before adding more strain onto an already burdened system. As residents who pay hefty taxes as well as Mello-Roos fees should not be expected to fund yet another project that would overcrowd and already crowded area.

Please sign this petition if you agree that we need to halt further housing development in Del Sur until we can ensure adequate resources for all residents.
