Halt the Demolition of the Historic Roosevelt School

Halt the Demolition of the Historic Roosevelt School
The Issue
For generations, the Roosevelt School has been more than just a building to us Idahoans. It has served as a school, a wedding venue, an architectural icon, and a monument to local education. It stands as a symbol of school desegregation and holds countless memories of our shared history.
The proposed demolition threatens to erase this significant part of our heritage. The Roosevelt School is not just an old building; it's an integral part of our community's identity. Its architecture reflects the historical period it was built in and serves as a reminder of how far we've come in terms of education and civil rights.
Moreover, demolishing such buildings can have environmental implications too. According to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), preserving historic buildings is more environmentally friendly than demolition and new construction.
We urge citizens, municipalities, taxing districts, business, educational and civic organizations, and elected officials to condemn any decision to demolish the Roosevelt School and strongly denounce any entity for promoting or participating in the grievous destruction of this tangible representation our historic and cultural heritage. We make this stand for the sake of preserving our shared history, cultural heritage, architectural beauty, educational symbolism, and environmental sustainability.
Please sign this petition if you believe that our past should be preserved for future generations to learn from and appreciate.
