The Issue

The proposed development by Palm Beach North Athletic Foundation (PBNAF) threatens to demolish beloved community spaces in Palm Beach Gardens, FL - the Gardens Skatepark and adjacent basketball courts, softball fields, etc., located at Plant Drive Park. These spaces are not just recreational areas but also serve as vital social hubs for our community. The Skatepark, in particular, is a haven for local youth, and adults as well, where they can engage in healthy physical activities and build friendships. According to a study by The Skatepark Project (formerly know as the Tony Hawk Foundation), skateparks contribute significantly to the physical fitness and mental well-being of young people while also providing them with a sense of belonging (Tony Hawk Foundation, 2017).

“Skateparks encourage youth to develop healthy, active lifestyles. Research shows that skateboarding and the communities that form at skateparks help young people build connections that benefit their socioemotional wellbeing. Skateparks are also havens of diversity, where youth of all backgrounds gather and connect through their common love of the sport.” - Tony Hawk

The proposed development on this property would rob our community of these benefits without providing an equivalent alternative. We believe that preserving these parks is crucial for maintaining the quality of life in Palm Beach Gardens.

We urge you to oppose this demolition and stand up for our parks. Your support can make a difference in preserving these cherished community spaces. Please sign this petition today!
