Halt the Construction of Wind and Solar Installations on Maine's Forest Lands

The Issue

I am a resident of Maine, lucky to own land in Northern Maine, our beautiful state which is on the verge of drastic transformations. Unfortunately, these transformations are not for the better. Everywhere I turn, wind turbines and solar inverters are popping up, marring the beauty of our precious forestry land.

Maine, also known as ‘The Pine Tree State’, is known for its vast forested areas, covering about 89% of the state's land, making us the most heavily forested state in the country. But, our precious landscapes and habitats are at significant risk due to the rapid increase in the installation of wind and solar power projects. We understand the need for renewable energy but not at the cost of despoiling Maine’s natural beauty and tranquility.

Research from Nature has indicated that large clusters of wind and solar farms could affect local climates, impacting wildlife habitats and potentially contributing to regional climate change (Nature, 2018). Surely, we can find a balance that does not involve spoiling the integrity of our forests.

We call on our leaders and energy developers to stop the unregulated construction of wind turbines and solar inverters in Maine's forestry. Let's focus on the sustainable integration of renewable energy without ravaging our forests. Please support our cause and sign this petition, help us protect our state's natural beauty for generations to come.
