Halt the Construction of the Royal Farms Gas Station on Route 8

Halt the Construction of the Royal Farms Gas Station on Route 8
The Issue
Royal Farms has applied to build a gas station at 336 Romancoke Road combining 3 parcels of land and constructing a mammoth 12 pump gas station with a 4,747 square foot convenience store. A gas station and convenience store of this size cannot be maintained from business generated from local residents. Royal Farms will need to pull 70-80 percent of the traffic needed to support this behemoth store and gas operation by pulling traffic from the 50 onto Route 8. The existing gas stations on Romancoke Road primarily serve the local community and do not add to the already terrible traffic on this stretch of road. The proposed Royal Farms would bring a 400-500% increase in traffic and, even worse, this traffic will be going both ways (coming and going) and will need to pull into and out of an uncontrolled intersection that already sees many horrific accidents. Moreover, commute times will skyrocket with 15-30 minutes added to peak drive time and less but still burdensome waits added round the clock as this 24 hour store pumps 2 way traffic onto Route 8 and creates round the clock traffic snarls.
As a concerned resident whose daily commute includes Route 8, I have experienced first-hand the chaotic and dangerous traffic that is becoming a growing issue. There have been numerous accidents at the uncontrolled intersection where Royal Farms is planning to erect a massive 4,747 square foot convenience store and gas station. Their proposal would dramatically increase traffic on this already burdensome route by an astounding 400%. This is not a hypothetical concern, it is a reality that puts many lives in jeopardy, my own included. The congestion brought about by the addition of a major retail outlet promises to intensify the existing traffic dilemmas and heighten the risk of accidents. Our community not only faces a decrease in the quality of life due to increased traffic and noise but also the prospect of witnessing the potential horror of traffic accidents increasing in frequency. We, as a community, cannot sit idle while such a project threatens our well-being. We respectfully urge the necessary authorities to reevaluate this project, considering the serious implications it could have on our daily lives, and ultimately to halt the construction of the Royal Farms gas station.
ROUTE 8 IS NOT BUILT TO HANDLE THIS VOLUME OF TRAFFIC. THE LOT AT 336 ROMANCOKE RD IS NOT SITUATED TO HANDLE THIS VOLUME OF ENTRANCES AND EXITS TO ROUTE 8.
