Halt the Construction of Pickleball Courts in Westminster Village Park

Halt the Construction of Pickleball Courts in Westminster Village Park
The Issue
4/9 update: We need to keep going with the petition! Victory was declared a bit prematurely (see updates below) and the decision to reallocate pickleball court funds will be going back to the City Council soon. The children’s playground is a go still regardless which is exciting.
Keep spreading the word!
Residents and friends of the Westminster Village Park community,
The City of Westminster has plans to build Pickleball courts within the serene environment of Westminster Village Park. This decision threatens to disrupt the tranquility and peace enjoyed by residents in this quiet community. The noise from these courts will be a major disturbance for local houses, infringing on their right to a peaceful living environment. Additionally, the influx of people attracted by these courts will exacerbate existing parking issues, leading to increased traffic and safety concerns. In addition to the all day noise:
- Who will police the rules and resolve disputes?
- Will this lead to a demand for public bathrooms?
- Will there be excess littering?
- Will there be an increase in crime in our neighborhood?
- Who and how many people will this attract to our neighborhood?
- Will our kids be as safe?
According to a study published in the Journal of Urban Planning and Development, an increase in traffic congestion can significantly lower quality of life for residents (Journal of Urban Planning and Development). Moreover, research from Environmental Health Perspectives suggests that exposure to consistent noise pollution can lead to various health problems including sleep disturbances and cardiovascular diseases (Environmental Health Perspectives).
Please sign this petition if you stand with us against the construction of Pickleball courts in Westminster Village Park!
EDIT / NOTE: Please do not feel it necessary to pay any $ to ‘promote’ this campaign. The intent is to gather opinion from our local community and visitors only. Thank you.
City of Westminster Council Members and Staff,
Thank you for your service. We urge you not only consider our plea but also think about its long-term effects on our community's wellbeing. We ask that you reconsider this plan or find an alternative location that won't impact residential peace or create unnecessary traffic problems. We have some park suggestions for you and would be more than happy to help with data collection, studies, etc. to help prove why this is not a good location for the courts.
