Toronto City Hall
100 Queen Street West, Suite C48 Toronto, M5H 2N2
Dear Councillor Morley,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express a growing concern among residents regarding the proposed 80-person adult shelter at 66 Third Street. This project has raised significant alarm within the community, and many local residents have expressed concerns to me about the location of the shelter.
As this issue falls under your purview, I believe it is important to share the concerns that have been raised with me. While I fully support the City’s efforts to address homelessness and provide shelter for those in need, the lack of transparent, meaningful, and inclusive consultation with the community is troubling. Many residents feel excluded from the process, and I am hearing a growing sentiment that such a significant decision should have involved community input from the outset—not after the site was chosen.
One of the key issues is the proximity of the shelter to two elementary schools. It is difficult for many in the community to understand why an adult shelter would be located so close to these schools. Parents, educators, and concerned residents have reached out to me, expressing concerns about the safety of children and seniors in the area.
These are serious and pressing issues for our community, and I strongly urge you to take immediate steps to ensure that the voices of all residents are heard.
As your provincial counterpart, I am committed to working with you to find a solution that both supports those in need and ensures the safety, stability, and well-being of our community.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Please keep me informed of any further developments.
Sincerely,
Christine Hogarth, MPP
