Halt the Construction of a Utility-Scale Solar Farm in Washington Township, Lawrence County, PA
The Issue
Did you know that Green Meadows Golf Course is slated to become the initial phase of a utility-scale solar farm that is planned to expand to more than 500 acres throughout Washington Township.
I am a resident of Washington Township, living in close proximity to where the utility-scale solar farm is planned to be constructed. This project threatens not only my home but also those of my neighbors. It has the potential to lower our quality of life, decrease property values and cause environmental issues.
The construction of this solar farm could disrupt our peaceful community and its natural beauty. The installation process involves heavy machinery and extensive land disruption that may lead to soil erosion and water pollution, among other concerns. Moreover, it could potentially harm local wildlife habitats.
Furthermore, studies have shown that large-scale solar farms can negatively impact property values. A study by Berkley National Laboratory of more than 1.8 million home resale transactions found that homes within one half mile from solar facilities saw their property values decrease by as much as 6% with with fears from regulators and residents of up to 40% (Inside Climate News).
We understand the need for renewable energy sources but believe there are better locations for such developments - ones that do not directly impact residential areas or valuable ecosystems.
We urge Washington Township and surrounding residents in Lawrence County, PA to reconsider this project's location and protect our community's wellbeing. Please sign this petition if you stand with us against the construction of this utility-scale solar farm in Washington Township.
