Halt the Construction of a Truck Stop near Residential Neighborhood in Romulus

The Issue

Our community is under a potential threat. Plans have emerged to construct a truck stop in Romulus at the corner of goddard and vining less than 1000 feet from one neighborhood and about 2000 feet from another neighborhood and city hall. Not only does the location of such an establishment threaten our quality of life, but it also places our physical health and environment at risk.

According to a study published in the Journal of Urban Affairs, neighborhoods within a 2-mile radius of similar facilities have reported an increase in noise and air pollution. The proposed truck stop will be much closer to our homes than that, magnifying these disturbing effects.

Furthermore, the presence of a truck stop endangers children and other vulnerable town members due to the increased heavy vehicular traffic and crime it brings. The Prevention Institute in its studies found that vehicular speed and volume correlate with the possibility of fatal accidents, particularly in residential areas where children play or commute.

Not only will it bring health risks, and crime to our area it will also bring down property values of our residents. Please take a look at reviews of the pilot/flying j in woodhaven its 9 miles from us and it is terrible. We do not want this brought to our city.

Appealing to the city council, we request an immediate halt to the plans to build this truck stop and a revision of construction site regulations to protect the citizens of Romulus. We don't need 100+ trucks idling and parking near us. Join us in our mission to keep our community safe and peaceful. Sign our petition so we can let the Romulus city council know we do not want this - let your voice be heard.
