Halt the Construction of a Mobile Phone Tower in our Local Neighborhood
The issue
Mere meters away from homes, the proposed site for a new mobile phone tower looms over our neighborhood in Craignish, QLD, Australia. I look at this impending monstrosity with a heavy heart not just as a homeowner, but also as an extremely concerned parent and neighbour. This mobile tower is not just a mere inconvenience, but a real threat to the health and wellbeing of our community.
Scientific research reveals a potential correlation between exposure to the radiofrequency radiation emitted by mobile towers and certain health conditions in humans. These conditions include, but are not limited to, increased cancer risk, headaches, sleep issues, genetic damage, and impacts to the nervous system. There's also evidence showing adverse effects on wildlife, particularly birds and bees, due to electromagnetic radiation (source: Environmental Health Trust). Thus, it's not just our community's health at stake here, but the rich biodiversity of the area as well.
In addition to the health risks, the installation of the tower would negatively impact the native flora and fauna of the area. Currently this reserve, which is allocated for park and recreational purposes, creates an important wildlife corridor/green belt that is used by a plethora of local wildlife including kangaroos, swamp wallabies, echidnas, sugar gliders, ring tail and brush tail possums, and an abundance of native bird life.
Finally, the installation of a mobile phone tower could negatively affect our property values. Mobile phone masts are generally considered an eyesore and may drive away potential buyers from homes in our idyllic community (source: Australian Property Investment).
I am calling on all residents of Craignish and the greater Fraser Coast Community, as well as environmental and public health advocates, to stand together with me against this mobile tower construction. It's time we take a stand for our community's health, our peaceful coexistence with wildlife, and the preservation of property values in our beloved neighborhood.
Please, sign this petition and say 'No' to the mobile phone tower in our neighbourhood. Your signature can make a huge difference not just in my family's life, but in the collective quality of life in our Craignish community.
