DENNY BLAINE PARKS AND REC MEETING DEC 6TH/CALL PARKS AND REC!!

Tabby A.United States
Dec 1, 2023

Greetings!

For those who are supporting the cause of saving Denny Blaine and encouraging Seattle’s Parks and Recreation to build the playground in a more accessible area:

We firstly want to remind everyone who can, please attend the community input meeting next Wednesday, December 6th, @ 3201 E. Republican St (the MLK Fame Community Center) from 5:30PM-6:30PM!! We are less than a week away from this meeting!

We also HIGHLY recommend emailing your comments to dennyblaineplayarea@seattle.gov. We were informed Parks and Recreation will be reading out emails they receive to that address at the meeting and likely will not have time for everyone’s in-person public comment. This is a way to ensure your voice is heard.

Parks and Recreation has informed us that they need demonstrated public interest in having a virtual option for the meeting available, and they also are keeping a tally of support/opposition for the Denny Blaine Project that will be sent DIRECTLY to the Superintendent of Parks! To add your voice, call (206) 684-4075. Once you call, request to speak with Parks Reception. We request you please be kind to the folks answering the phone, as they are not the ones who control the project and they want to be as helpful as possible in making our voices heard!

Updates:
 1. We have gotten a letter from an Endowed Chair in Pediatric Outcomes Research and Professor at the University of Washington, Frederick P. Rivara, stating that Denny Blaine Beach poses a risk for children swimming, due to a lack of line of sight of the shoreline from the area where people are able to sit at the park. View that letter here.
 2. We now have an Instagram. Please follow and share our posts on social media to spread awareness!
 3. We have caught positive media attention!! The Stranger, Capitol Hill Seattle, KOMO, KIRO 7, KING5, and other news outlets have featured our petition and members of our community who do not want a playground at Denny Blaine! Thank you!

Impactful small things everyone should try to do between now and the meeting
1. Take 2 mins to call the Parks department at 206-684-4075. As we said above, they are collecting opinions and sending them directly to the head of Parks and Recreation! Just call (206) 684-4075 and request to speak with Reception. Please be nice to reception employees! They do not control this project.
2.  Email Parks department at dennyblaineplayarea@seattle.gov (even a really short one!)

We have received over 5,000 signatures from community members on our petition, nearly 2,000 form letters have been sent to our elected officials and Seattle’s Parks and Recreation Department. THANK YOU. However, we can do more and need to do more! Please share links to our petition and form letter with everyone in your network. Here is the shareable link.
