As an employee at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), I witness first-hand the potential hazards that a baseball stadium next to our institution could create. The proposed plans will undeniably add to the traffic and noise, negatively impacting not only health care workers like myself, but, more importantly, the patients who depend on our care.

Living in a city, we understand that development is inevitable. However, this proposed plan is not the right development for the neighborhood, especially when that plot of land neighbors a hospital. OHSU's primary aim is to provide excellent patient care. Increased noise levels from stadium events can contribute significantly to patient stress, impede recovery, and even exacerbate underlying health issues [source: World Health Organization]. Moreover, added traffic can limit timely access to the hospital and its emergency services.

Preserving the quality of healthcare, the tranquility of our patients' recovery environment, and the cohesion of our working ambiance should be prioritized over a sports venue. We need to come together to rethink the stadium's proposed location and find a viable alternative.
