We recently learned, from the county, that there are two upcoming meetings that are critically important to attend.
- 02/26 at 6:00 pm: Douglas County Planning Commission
- 03/13 at 2:30 pm: Board of County Commissioners
- Philip S. Miller Building, 100 Third Street in Castle Rock
We need to show up in big numbers and make public comment at these meetings. Normally, people do not attend these meetings, and matters get pushed through without any dissent from the public. That’s what Sterling Ranch, LLC is hoping will happen again.
We were told that this project is in the very earliest stages, and many changes can be made. That’s not entirely true. Changes can be made, but, very soon, the plans for 450 apartments will be moved to the next phase, which would make changes even more difficult.
It’s also incredibly important to keep focused. Apartments are going to happen here, like it or not. We need to let the county know that 450 is too many, and 4-5 stories is too tall. Sterling Ranch sold us on the promise that we would have retail in this area, chiefly a grocery store and restaurant, and those have been erased from the new plan. These towering monstrosities of apartments do not fit into the design of our neighborhood, nor do they deliver on the promise of a carefully planned, resident-centered community.
Please mark these dates on your calendars now and plan to attend and make a short comment.
