Halt the Construction of 3-Story Multi-Family Buildings in Single Home Areas

The Issue

I, and many others in my community, are increasingly distressed by the construction of towering 3-story multi-family buildings in areas predominantly occupied by single-story homes. These superstructures are emerging in our neighbourhood with alarming frequency and are indubitably causing us significant frustration and concern.

By blocking natural sunlight to our homes, they obstruct our basic right to enjoy our living spaces in a conducive environmental ambiance. Our local flora is also affected by this decrease in sunlight experience, undermining the biodiversity which enriches our community.

Moreover, the proliferation of these buildings leads to excess traffic and increased congestion. The resultant augmented noise and air pollution, along with the strain on existing local infrastructure, is considerable and detrimental to our quality of life.

According to a study conducted by the American Planning Association, unregulated dense housing units in low-density residential areas can lead to various community issues (American Planning Association, 2019). Such effects can range from strain on infrastructure to traffic-related safety concerns, significantly impacting the pleasant, serene environment we have enjoyed so far.

Therefore, we urgently appeal to the local council to re-evaluate and modify construction regulations, limiting the height and density of new buildings in our area. We strongly believe that a harmonious coexistence of diverse housing types need not be at the expense of our residential tranquillity and the wellbeing of our community. Please sign this petition and join us in this endeavour to protect our neighbourhood.
