For decades, the Rancho Capistrano property in scenic San Juan Capistrano has embodied a cherished heritage and served as a vital community hub. From Boy and Girl Scouts activities to YMCA meetings, community soccer games, church services, and marital couple retreats. Rancho Capistrano has been a testament to the wholesome spirit and values of our community. Gifted to the church by my grandparents, it was meant to serve the community and preserve the unique character of Orange County.

Today, this heritage is under threat. Saddleback Church has unfortunately taken the amazing gift of Rancho Capistrano (gifted to him by Hobby Lobby)  and has negotiated (at a monetarily benefit), a significant portion of Rancho Capistrano to Compass Energy Storage LLC whom proposes to construct a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) on this priceless tract of land that served as community soccer fields, camp sites, community event locations, etc. Such an undertaking stands to affect not only our community's historical heritage but also the very health and environmental sanctity of our area.

The potential impact on our ground, air, and water supplies is considerable, and the pursuit of project approval by the California Energy Commission (CEC) disregards the value we place on our land. It also disregards the horrific environmental disaster that RECENTLY occurred in Monterey County with this same type of facility!  It is more than an issue of land use; it is about respect for our region's history, traditions, and safeguarding our environment for our generation and the generations to come.

Let's make a firm stand! Let's make our voice heard and emphatically express our opposition to the Compass Energy Storage LLC project. This land is our home, a tangible part of our history, and we must preserve it. Let us encourage the CEC, Rivk Warren and the State of California to reject this project and protect the rich legacy of Rancho Capistrano as well as Orange County.
