I am a resident of Clapham, London, and like many others in our community, I rely heavily on the services provided by our local post office at Clapham Common. This post office is not just a place to send and receive mail; it is a vital hub for local residents and businesses alike. Its closure would cause significant problems for our community.

The proposed closure of this well-used facility will put an unnecessary strain on the elderly who depend on its services for their pensions or bill payments. It will also impact small businesses that rely on it for their daily operations. Furthermore, it will force residents to travel further distances to access postal services.

According to Royal Mail's annual report 2020/21, post offices are used by over 17 million people in the UK every week (source: Royal Mail Group). In an era where we should be encouraging more sustainable lifestyles and reducing unnecessary travel, closing such vital facilities seems counterproductive.

We urge those responsible - whether they are from Royal Mail Group or Post Office Ltd - to reconsider this decision. We ask them to recognise the importance of maintaining essential public services within communities like ours in Clapham.
