Thank you for signing our petition! The next step to ensure your voice is heard is to contact your elected official on the City of Olean Common Council and the Mayor’s office. I have included the contact information for each of them at the end of this update.
Please contact your Alderman for your ward to let them know that you would like The City of Olean’s Common Council to halt the plans to build a splash park at War Vets and send back the equipment they purchased!
The City should not have used $500,000 of ARPA Funds (which are intended for COVID-19 relief ). In addition, the city should not be borrowing over $1 million (since there is no total funding needed could be a lot more) on a bond, which as taxpayers, we will be responsible for paying back.
This has all been done in a rush with no input for the taxpayers… This purchase should never have been done without a completed budget, input from our city DPW or Community Development Directors, and input from you, the taxpayer. Unfortunately, I assume there will be a return fee on the $802,984.55 of equipment they purchased. But, the City of Olean needs to cut its losses and move forward. To spend more money on this project, would be a grave mistake. We, the taxpayers, need to make sure the monies are going to what is needed for our City… not wanted by our council.
