Halt the Ban on Selling Petrol and Diesel Vehicles in the UK

Halt the Ban on Selling Petrol and Diesel Vehicles in the UK
The Issue
As an individual who, like millions, stands to be affected by the UK's proposed ban on the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles, the impact this decision could have on our everyday lives should not be underestimated. We understand the push towards a greener future, however, it is vital that this transition does not negatively impact those who are unable to afford the options presented by this change.
Many are being forced into the narrow corridor of purchasing second-hand electric cars as the direct result of these policies. But remember, electric cars also have their own set of costs. For one, the batteries of these cars have a finite lifespan. The affordability of brand new battery replacements is an issue that needs to be addressed, as these cost estimates are currently far out of reach for much of the population. The proposed ban may inadvertently push almost 2.86 million UK drivers off the roads due to the unaffordability of e-vehicles (Source: RAC Report 2020).
We need sustainability, yes, but it should not come at the cost of rendering millions helpless and without transport, thereby cutting them off the outer world. We urge the UK government to reconsider the ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars unless affordable alternatives have been established for everyone. Sign this petition to ensure that the voices of individuals on the brink of losing their means to transport are heard.
