The Issue

For generations, families have been growing up in the quiet, close-knit community of Melrose Street. This calm environment, with its minimal traffic, has provided a safe place for our children to thrive. Melrose Street is narrow, operating on a single lane due to the prevalence of street parking. It was never designed to accommodate the high volumes of traffic that would inevitably come with the proposed apartment complex construction.

Building this complex would bring in a surge of vehicles, disrupting the peace and safety of our cherished neighborhood. Further, our street was originally a dead-end, adding to its tranquility.

Research from the University of California, Berkeley shows that increased traffic flow in residential areas can significantly raise noise pollution levels, as well as the risk of traffic accidents, affecting the health and safety of residents (UC Berkeley, 2012). This is the exact threat that the Melrose Street community stands against today.

We cannot idly watch as construction plans threaten to strip our street of its unique charm, history, and community spirit. We call upon the relevant authorities to halt the construction of the proposed apartment complex on Melrose Street. Let's preserve the sanctity of our neighborhood - a place we deeply care for and consider home. Sign this petition to join us in protecting Melrose Street.
