Halt the Aerial Spray of Naled for Mosquito Control

The Issue

Naled has been widely used to control mosquito populations across our country, but evidence shows potential harm this chemical can cause to human health and the environment. Although the EU has banned the use of Naled since 2012 as a “potential and unacceptable risk to humans and the environment”, 3 million pounds of Naled are used every year in the US alone (US Environmental Protection Agency data). Naled is an organophosphate insecticide that is highly toxic to bees and aquatic life (reported by National Pesticide Information Center). Moreover, it can cause nausea, headaches, and dizziness in humans, and long-term exposure can lead to more serious health problems including Parkinson's and developmental delays in children (according to a study from the University of Michigan). We demand the Palm Beach County Mosquito Control program and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to halt the use of Naled and look for more environmentally friendly and less hazardous approaches to repel mosquitoes. Combating mosquitoes shouldn't come with such a high risk for our health and environment.

Crop dusting residential areas needs to stop. The time to act is now. Please, sign this petition to stop the aerial spray of Naled for mosquito control.
