Halt the 23.8% Property Tax Increase in Delaware County

The Issue

Delaware County Council, if an ethical and moral Council, must listen to its residents. This petition is a way to collect the numbers of people who do not want a tax increase.

I am a young adult who dreams of homeownership and building a legacy in Delaware County. However, the proposed 23.8% increase in property tax poses a significant barrier. Working families and retirees in our neighborhood share my predicament, struggling with the infeasibility of such a surge. We can't let the high property taxes disrupt our livelihood here.

Truth be told, the consistent rise in property tax places a harrowing burden on residents. Delaware County is outpacing the national trend where, according to the Tax Policy Center, local property tax revenues have increased by about 16.2% over five years (Tax Policy Center, 2021). This exponential growth is untenable for us citizens who make up the backbone of the county.

Our plea to the authorities in Delaware County is to not move forward with any increase, and reconsider and commit to other avenues prior to proposing anything on the residents. We propose the exploration of alternative revenue avenues- NO TAX INCREASE! Not only does this make homeownership more accessible, but it also ensures the sustaining of diverse and vibrant communities in our beautiful county.

Vice Chair Womack stated in the Delaware County Council Meeting on 12/04 that there should be a Budget Commission made of community leaders to advise how we should proceed with the Budget for the County. Why has this not been done? The County wants us to do their job for them, while they get paid and we cut costs.

It's time to stand against the 23.8% increase in property tax. We need your signature to help preserve affordable homeownership in Delaware County. Please, sign this petition today.
