Halt Solar Farm Construction on Agricultural and Residential Land in St. James Parish

The Issue

We have lived in St. James Parish, LA for a very long time, and for some of us, our whole life. This community is crucial to us, and we've seen it grow and change over the years. What we do not want to witness is our landscape being irreversibly altered and our local land use plan disregarded. Solar farms are beginning to spread across our farming lands and residential areas, threatening to overshadow our native scenery.

Solar farms, while promoting clean energy, are not without their drawbacks. Larger ones can eat up valuable fertile land that should be used for farming, damaging local agriculture, and eventually, our economy. Not to mention the strain on residential areas: they affect the aesthetics and potentially decrease property values.

Moreover, the premise that transitioning to solar farms will result in mass job creation is misleading. The employment data suggests that the renewable energy sector isn't as labor-intensive once the construction phase is over. Once the installation is completed, the need for labor dramatically reduces.

We want to support the movement towards renewable energy, but not at the cost of our land, our jobs, and our community's identity. We must find alternative locations for these solar farms that would not disrupt agricultural and residential areas of St. James Parish. Our land use plan has to be respected, and our local jobs safeguarded.

Stand with us in voicing this concern. We must keep the welfare of our community at the forefront of decisions made by those in power. Sign the petition today and let’s protect St. James Parish for both us and future generations.
