I am deeply concerned about the plight of the orcas in British Columbia and San Juan islands. These majestic creatures are struggling to find food due to overfishing by trawlers, who not only deplete their food source but also waste dead fish by using them for composting. This unsustainable practice is causing a significant imbalance in our marine ecosystem.

According to a study by the University of British Columbia, there has been a 60% decline in Chinook salmon - the primary food source for these orcas - over the past four decades (UBC Study, 2019). The same study indicates that if this trend continues, we may see an irreversible decline in orca populations within our lifetime.

The situation is dire and requires immediate action. We must put an end to salmon fishing in these areas until sustainable practices can be implemented and enforced. By doing so, we not only protect our marine life but also preserve the balance of our ecosystem for future generations.
