I found my haven in the pines outside of Payson, AZ. A place where the stress of urban life was replaced by the tranquility of nature and a close-knit community. This idyllic community, currently zoned to prevent overcrowding and reduce strain on natural resources, is under threat. An effort is underway to change current zoning laws - from no more than 2 houses per acre (more precisely - 2.2 houses per acre) to allowing for 5.

This proposed rezoning threatens not only our peaceful way of life but also risks overburdening our local ecosystem. The increase in housing density could lead to an increased demand for water and other resources that may not be sustainable given our area's natural limitations (US Environmental Protection Agency). Moreover, this shift could disrupt local wildlife habitats and contribute to environmental degradation.

Our community was built on the principles of preserving nature and fostering neighborly bonds - principles that would be undermined by such drastic rezoning. We moved here because we wanted a respite from crowded cityscapes, not another concrete jungle.

We must protect what makes this place special – its peace, its beauty, its sense of community. We urge local authorities to halt any plans for rezoning in our unincorporated community outside Payson, AZ.
