My son Abraham is one of thousands of children whose lives have been transformed by the specialist expertise at Maytree, Effra, and Triangle Nursery Schools. These aren’t just childcare centres, they are lifelines for many families in Lambeth and beyond.

Lambeth Council is currently consulting on the closure of these three incredible schools. If these closures proceed, we would not just lose buildings, we would lose decades of invaluable teaching experience that cannot be found anywhere else. These schools offer a level of specialist education and care that privatised settings simply cannot replicate.

Maytree, Effra, and Triangle Nursery Schools have built a legacy of nurturing harmony, development, and equality. The dedicated staff at these schools provide tailor-made learning environments that respect and address the unique needs of each child, ensuring every child thrives in their early years.

The closure of these nurseries would have devastating impacts on our community, particularly some of the most vulnerable children who rely on this crucial support. The educational experiences provided at these schools often serve as a foundational scaffold for lifelong learning and success. 

Several studies attest to the positive effects of early education settings that understand and cater to diverse learning needs. Recognised specialists agree that closing such schools could lead to a regression in child development, and widen educational disparities.

We urge Lambeth Council to stop this consultation immediately. It is essential to explore alternatives that support financial sustainability without compromising the unique offerings provided by these schools. Community-led initiatives, public-private partnerships or grants are viable solutions to keeping these institutions afloat.
