Halt Open Road Renewal's Planned Solar Farm Installation in Our Neighborhood
The Issue
Our neighborhood, around county roads 165 and 166, is facing an imminent quality-of-life disruption caused by Open Road Renewal's plans to install a solar farm in our locality. These plans, although positioned as a sustainable initiative, will introduce not only visual disturbance from unsightly solar panels but also numerous tangible problems. The noise from heavy-duty construction vehicles, internet interference, and potential damage to our electronics caused by electromagnetic fields from solar inverters are just the tip of the iceberg.
Living in a peaceful neighborhood, we are unprepared for the detrimental effects this project could bring to our everyday lives. The proposed solar farm threatens to even damage our drainage systems, which could lead to increased flooding risk, property damage, and possible health risks. This could affect our property values also. Our fertile farmland, a source of local economic productivity and pride, is also at risk of degradation.
Concerns also overflow about the disposal of outdated solar panels, which are not biodegradable and could lead to the filling up of our local landfills. The life-cycle of solar panels, which can be 25-30 years, is a source of worry, as this means constant replacements and thus constant influx of discarded panels in our land-fill sites.
We fear for our health and that of our pets too, as studies on the effects the solar panels and farm could have on humans or animals present in their vicinity are inconclusive. We cannot willingly expose ourselves and our pets to potential health risks. The project will also likely result in significant disruptions to the aesthetics of our landscapes, a cruel price to pay for energy that could be sourced responsibly elsewhere.
In the face of these problems, we urge the local decision-making bodies to reconsider the planned solar farm installation. We ask for immediate intervention and for alternative sustainable solutions that take our concerns into account. Please sign this petition and stand with us against ecosystem disruption and unsolicited compromise on our quality of life.
