Halt Illegal Open-Air Concerts at Forest Hills Stadium
The Issue
I am a resident of Forest Hills, Queens, NY, USA. My life has been disrupted by the open-air concerts held at the Forest Hills Stadium. The noise from these events penetrates every corner of my house and makes it impossible for me to rest, sleep or even concentrate. Moreover, my house trembles and vibrates due to the loud music.
The lives of thousands of citizens have been destroyed. The noise from trucks, traffic, taxis, honks, screams of seventeen thousand people invading our small area in addition to the rehearsals, sound checks and the concerts themselves has done a terrible harm to the citizens. A doctor cannot make an emergency call. A child cannot be transported to the house from school. Seniors cannot take a bus or park the car next to their houses. It is not safe to walk the streets anymore because of illegal parking at literally every hydrant/crossroads and sidewalks. Our properties are trespassed and the police are busy still protecting the concert-goers. The mob-like behavior of drunk/drugged, aggressive concert.- goers who urinate on our lawns, leave trash and even drugs on the lawns and the streets is covered up by the police. It is like somebody is inviting 400 people in your one bedroom apartment. What is going to happen? Trash.These events happen every third day. It is a real nightmare.
This is not just about one person's inconvenience; it's about our community's peace and tranquility. According to a study conducted by the World Health Organization in 2018, exposure to excessive noise can lead to various health problems including stress-related illnesses, poor concentration, productivity loss in workplaces and disruption of children’s learning (source: WHO).
Forest Hills is a residential neighborhood with many families who deserve quiet evenings without being disturbed by loud music from concerts. It is crucial that we preserve our community’s peace and tranquility.
