I am a tween with ambitions of becoming a marine biologist or veterinarian. Yet, it fills me with dread that I might not have any creatures to aid in the future because of the environmental damage caused by oil drilling. Each year, thousands of barrels of oil infiltrate our oceans through leaks and spills, devastating habitats, decimating marine species, and damaging sensitive ecosystems beyond repair. Research by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) highlights that just one liter of oil can contaminate up to one million liters of water (NOAA, 2017).

My dreams, and those of many young people like me, hang in the balance while our marine life pays the ultimate price. Let's stop oil drilling.
