Halt New Construction in Brookhaven Subdivision, Nitro, West Virginia

The Issue

As a resident of Nitro, West Virginia, and particularly in the Brookhaven subdivision, my community and I are deeply concerned about plans for new construction in our precious neighborhood. Our fears are not unfounded. Existing conditions already leave much to be desired, with flood situations worsening regularly, straining our already overburdened drainage system.

The permission for development concealed beneath this proposal could drastically alter the character of our peaceful neighborhood. It could increase the flooding and damage to our existing homes, not to mention open the door to the potential for more homes, apartment buildings, or the intrusion of developers, which very well could change our community for the worse.

The city council has already conducted their first reading on lifting the current construction prohibition, and it duly passed. The second, and crucially important reading, will occur on April 15th at 6:45. Its importance cannot be overstressed, for, if it passes, the neighborhood we know and love may change beyond recognition.

It's up to us to voice our opposition. We need heavy resident attendance at this meeting to convincingly establish our stance. Help us maintain the familiarity, and comparative tranquility of our homes, and hold off impending change that cause potential harm. We urge you to add your signature to this petition to convey our collective rebuttal of these construction plans and preserve the Brookhaven we cherish. Sign this petition now to make a difference.
