Despite almost 19,000 of us asking for the city to stop logging the jewel of our beloved city, logging has continued and more is slated for the fall, so we have filed a negligence lawsuit and have an injunction hearing on September 16.
We received a small grant, but we have burned through it pretty quickly and our costs have ballooned. Each time we visit the court to submit an affidavit, there is a charge. We hired four independent experts and two of them were from out of town. Our experts all agreed – the logging was not only unnecessary, but has INCREASED fire risk in the park.
The science is on our side and we believe that we will be successful, but we can’t keep going if we don’t replenish our funds. What we are asking is for everyone who cares about Stanley Park to donate between $5 and $20. If we all chip in, we should be able to manage. We have discovered thousand-year-old trees in the park, trees that withstood the great fire of 1886 and according to City of Vancouver documents, a beautiful section of Chickadee Trail is slated for logging in October and WE MUST SAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL UNTOUCHED FOREST! Funds will be used to cover expert witness costs, court fees and printing costs.
