Halt Knowsley Council's 2025 Policy to Keep All Dogs on Leashes

Halt Knowsley Council's 2025 Policy to Keep All Dogs on Leashes
The Issue
For my dog Bella, as for many others, recreational walks mean a time for freedom, play, and interaction with fellow canines. This daily dose of happiness has a significant impact on Bella's well-being, just as it does for countless other dogs accustomed to the freedom of off-the-leash adventures. Unbeknownst to those making the decisions, Knowsley Council's proposed 2025 mandate to leash all dogs while out in the community threatens to strip our furry companions of the freedom they cherish and need.
Canine interaction and free play contribute significantly to a dog's psychological health, as stated by experts in dog behavior. According to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB), dogs require social interaction, and preventing this may lead to an increase in incidents of anxiety and destructive behavior.
Our beautiful parks have been a haven for our pets to freely roam and engage with one another. It is also important to remember that many responsible dog owners have already trained their dogs to respond to vocal commands, thus ensuring the safety of the parks.
We respectfully ask Knowsley Council to reconsider this mandate. It is important to strive for responsible pet ownership without infringing upon the essential rights and happiness of our beloved pets.
Let us be the voice for Bella and countless others. Stand against unnecessary leash laws. Please, sign our petition today. Let freedom wag its tail!
